Works for 4 to 24 players. Odd numbers are fine — the sheet says who sits out each round.
In a full round robin every player partners every other player exactly once. With eight players on two courts that is seven rounds; with twelve on three courts it is eleven. With fewer courts you get through fewer of the pairings in the same number of rounds — the schedule still never gives anyone the same partner twice, which is what matters on the night. Because partners rotate, the format sorts stronger and weaker players out on its own — you are credited with your own points regardless of who you were drawn with, which is what makes it fair for a mixed-ability group.
Somebody doesn't turn up. Generate the sheet again with one fewer player, or let the extra person sit out and keep going — the totals still work.
Two people arrive late. Start them in a later round; they simply play fewer rounds, and if you rank on points-per-round nobody is penalised.
You want to keep the results. Adding up a paper sheet is fine for one night. Across a season it stops being fine, which is what Kitchen Leagues is for — it keeps the standings, rotates the partners, and shares live results with your players.
